In My Rereading Era: The 10 Books I've Reread Since 2022

In My Rereading Era

In honor of recently finishing another reread, I thought I’d highlight all of the books I’ve reread since 2022. 2022 was definitely the year of rereads – the most I’ve ever done – and it’s honestly been wonderful. In a community where there’s endless new releases and arcs and hype, there’s always this feeling of finding that next best book and also of missing out on that next best book. But, you know what’s also amazing? Rereading a past favorite. A comfort read that wraps you in a nostalgic hug and fills you up with joy. Not only that, but it’s a great refresher when you’ve waited a year for a sequel to release! Recalling those minor details makes a world of difference, in my opinion.

My latest reread was Tower of Dawn, book 6 in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. I first read this series back in 2020 with a bookstagram book club and it was one of the highlights of that year! While it did take me two books to wholly warm up to this series, it is absolutely one of my all time favorites and I am SO happy I took the plunge last year to start a reread. I got through books 1 - 5 by year end and I feel like that’s a huge accomplishment. Especially when I’m dodging and managing and putting on hold all of the anticipated releases I’d also like to read at the same time… it can feel impossible to keep up!

But if 2023 is any indication, this is the year of purging and letting go, of downsizing and minimizing. And in the bookish lifestyle sense, DNFing (deciding to stop reading a book I’ve started because I’m just not feeling it – DNF = Did Not Finish). I’m finally going through all my owned books, too, and truly being honest with myself about whether I’ll actually pick up this book or another and read it. It’s been gratifying and humbling to say the least. I’ve released boxes and boxes of books. Already this year, I’ve donated roughly 3 dozen from my collection, some I’d read, some I hadn’t, and I have about that many more in a second batch – of just ones I haven’t read – waiting to be hauled out of here!

All that to say, I’m hoping that purge of my TBR frees up and clears my mental mindset about what books I’m taking the time to consume as well as invest in. There was this sense that I had for a long time that I “had to” read all of the books that were sent to me or that I purchased or that were gifted, and realistically, that can just become impossible. Especially when you want books and stories that light you up and speak to your soul. What’s the point of wasting your time on ones that do just the opposite? Those ones are just noise and should be set aside, maybe just for now or maybe for good.

But I digress. LOL.

While this release and purge has been wholly satisfying and freeing for me, there will always be books on the horizon, am I right?! Taking the time to reread a book or series that really just spoke to me or is just one I cherish for one reason or another is absolutely WORTH. IT. Both the time and energy it takes. 100% worth it! And it’s taken me a couple of years to realize that as well as embrace it. So without further digression on my part, let’s review all of the books I reread in 2022.

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Similar to the majority of the rereads on this list, I reread House of Earth and Blood in anticipation of the sequel’s release, House of Sky and Breath. HOEAB was one of my favorites of 2020! It didn’t necessarily hit me like the ACOTAR series did, BUT I loved the joining of fantasy and murder mystery SO much. Plus the angels x demons trope is top tier for me. I loved the found family friendships, the forbidden romance, the mental health awareness, and the unique fantasy elements, too. Despite what some may say about the world building, this story was just spot on for me and reacquainting myself with all of its subtle details and inner workings was worth. it. It made the second book that much more enjoyable, even though I truly believe it could have been 100 pages shorter... I still loved it regardless.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

This one I actually reread so I could just continue the series! Historically speaking, I’m really great at starting a series and not so great at continuing it in a timely manner. As I digressed earlier, I sometimes get distracted by all the other books, ha. But this one was just a refresher because I was determined to read the rest of the series last year… and I did! For Ember, and the rest of the series actually, I ended up tandem reading the physical copy along with listening to the audiobook. That combo honestly does wonders for my attention span and increases my reading speed with fantasy books. Whenever I can, I try to grab the corresponding audiobook from my library. And, in this case, it really brought the story to life for me.

A Fate of Wrath and Flame by K.A. Tucker

Another reread in anticipation of its sequel, A Curse of Blood and Stone. I am still obsessed with having Tucker in the fantasy genre! Her medieval, vampire-inspired series has not disappointed. This story and fantasy world has so many nuances and unique elements that it was necessary to refresh those particular aspects before continuing the story just to ensure my best reading experience. I’m fairly certain I’ll have to do the same with both books 1 and 2 before I read the third this year.

The Throne of Glass Series Books 1 – 5

This series I just decided to reread because I was feeling quite nostalgic for it. Books 1 – 5 include Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, and Empire of Storms. I haven’t reread the companion novella, The Assassin’s Blade yet, but I still might! When I’d gotten through ToG and CoM, all I wanted to do was dive right into Heir of Fire. It’s been sentimental reading this series again. There was a short time when I first started rereading that my timing was almost exactly 2 years from my original read. Buddy reading with one of my book besties this time has also been so much fun. Since 2023 began, as I mentioned earlier, I’ve finished Tower of Dawn and my goal is absolutely to finish up this series reread by year end!

READ THIS SERIES IF YOU LIKE:

  • fae fantasy stories

  • hidden royalty

  • found family

  • fated / bonded mates

  • kingdoms at war

  • themes of light and dark

To Bleed A Crystal Bloom by Sarah A. Parker

Last, but absolutely not least, To Bleed A Crystal Bloom might be my favorite series among these listed. It’s hard to say because I do love all of them for various reasons. Rhordyn is certainly a top favorite love interest, hands down. But this series is more on the gut wrenching, staggeringly emotional, I’m-crying-a-lot-when-I-read-these-books side of stories. I reread this book in anticipation of the sequel, To Snap A Silver Stem. Definitely another reread that was needed! One, because this series is so enigmatic from the start (we only just started discovering some concrete details about the world and the territory’s history in book 3). And two, because I definitely forgot a lot of those pertinent details from book 1 that likely would have impacted my reading experience of the sequel. Surprisingly, I didn’t have to do that this year before reading book 3… That’s how much of an impression Snap and my initial reread of book 1 left on me. I treasure this series.
