What To Read & Watch After Every Summer After

What To Read & Watch After Every Summer After

I’ve been in a kind of haze since I finished Every Summer After by Carley Fortune a week ago. I have no words to describe the impact this story has had on me. It’s nostalgic. It’s comfort. It’s home. Sam is literally everything. I miss this story so much. While I’ve tried picking up a couple of books since then, nothing has compared. I have a feeling I’ll be rereading this book very, very soon. So, if you’re feeling like me, and can’t get your mind to stop reliving Every Summer After, here are a few other reading and watching options to give you that same nostalgic, cozy, summer lake house, small town vibe. But, honestly, if you have to, just pick Every Summer After back up! I know I will be any day now.

What To Watch After Every Summer After

1 // Outer Banks

Weirdly enough, Outer Banks on Netflix was all I wanted to watch after finishing Every Summer After. I think it had to do with being near the water. The whole setting of Outer Banks is in the low country coast of the Carolinas! And while some of the absolute basics of the stories are similar - being by water, events of the summer, a similar group of kids (I saw every character from Every Summer After in the Outer Banks cast!) and just those coastal, nostalgic, feel-good vibes - this story’s main storyline is a high stakes, epic, and nonstop treasure hunt filled with mysterious riddles and historic clues hidden throughout the kids’ lives. It brought me all the comfort when I was longing to be back in the world of Every Summer After for the first time.

2 // The Notebook

You could also read this, too! The Notebook is a stunningly bittersweet second chance romance. There’s that small town and boys of the summer vibe, ice cream, and being near the water. I cry every time I watch this.

3 // Your Place or Mine

If you’re looking for something more feel-good and completely wholesome without any of those bittersweet moments, this new romantic comedy on Netflix is it! Your Place or Mine is a second chance, friends to lovers, single mom romance and I loved every second of it. It’s another nostalgic one that felt immediately like home.

What To Read After Every Summer After

1 // Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker

Second chance romance? Check. Dual timelines? Check. Imperfect relationship? Check. Nostalgic, summer vibes with a tragic backstory? Check, Check, Check.

This story, for me, was stunning, wistful, and filled with so much hope. Just like Every Summer After. Piper and Kyle, while not perfect by any means, were everything. Perfectly imperfect. Just like Sam and Percy. With Piper and Kyle, you’ll also get more of a city-slicker, workplace romance vibe in the now timeline. Piper and Kyle are reunited through happenstance of a new job. But the then timeline will give you all the nostalgic, days of the summer, sleep-away camp vibes with cliff jumping and those chemistry-filled, first love, teenage angst, special stolen moments.

It’s heartfelt and romantic, tragic and heartbreaking. You will love it.

2 // Beach Read by Emily Henry

This one will give you all the beachy writer vibes and that secluded, small-town, summer feel.

January and Gus, both simultaneously bogged down with writers’ block, unknowingly head to neighboring beach houses for the summer where they finally strike a bargain to get themselves out of their respective creative ruts. And a beautiful, funny, and romantic romance ensues.

Definitely a different feel overall than Every Summer After and Say You Still Love Me, but if you’re looking for more of a feel-good, heartwarming rom-com, that still has sentimentality and those summer- and near-the-water vibes, this is it!

3 // Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

[UPDATE 3/15/20] I just finished Love and Other Words and wanted to add it as a “read after” option for Every Summer After! The love story, second chance, dual timeline, and vacation home are definitely reminiscent of Percy and Sam’s story and journey together. For whatever reason, though, I didn’t take to Love and Other Words as much as alot of people have, but it still left me with that heartswelling, emotional feeling and I do love Elliot no matter how much I struggled with the story along the way.

What To Add To Your TBR After Every Summer After

1 // The Infinity Between Us by N.S. Perkins

I just added this one to my TBR (to be read) list after it was recommended to me on TikTok when I shared how much I loved Every Summer After. I was told it had a very similar feel to Sam and Percy’s story and after reading the synopsis, I can already tell and I want to read. it. ASAP! To add it on Goodreads, tap on the cover.

2 // Meet Me At The Lake by Carley Fortune

Add this to your list as soon as possible. It’s Carley’s next book!!! Coming in just 2 short months now on May 2nd!

A chance encounter. A lakeside resort. An undeniable connection. A broken pact. A decade apart.

I’m so excited to meet Will and Fern!
